The election, the choices, and the future of America.
So I'm at the polls on Friday doing early voting. As I was in line to get to the machine a young woman was behind me talking on her phone about how this is history in the making. After a few minutes of talking at the top of her lungs so she could look important she hung up then phone, and proceeded to tell me that was her friend. I find this somewhat humorous because I didn't ask. Anyway, she went on to ask me if I was voting Obama/Biden? I asked her if this was her first election and she responded yes. I went on to say "it shows because anyone who has done this before knows you can't ask those kinds of questions at a polling place. Hence there are no campaigners." She looked back at me like I was a germ and that was that. Or so I thought. This same young woman caught me leaving the polling place and said "you didn't answer my question." I asked "what was your question." And she again said "did you vote Obama/Biden?" I responded by saying I don't support communists. To with which I got the response I expected which was “what does that mean.” I told the young woman she could take it how ever she wished; I wasn’t going to explain, but to say I don’t support communists. She responded with “I don’t even know what that means.” SHE DOESN’T KNOW WHAT A COMMUNIST IS!!! These are the same type of people who would call me a Fascist. I wonder if she would be able to define that word for me or tell me who the historical figurehead of Fascism was? Ladies and gentlemen this is the future of America. I understand that it is regarded as your civic duty to vote for your leaders. But isn’t it also your duty to research your leaders and potential leaders as well? Am I the only one who believes this? I was reading in Somebody’s Gotta Say It, by Neil Boortz., on page 89 he accurately points out that there is not right to vote in the United States Constitution. Likewise there are no provisions limiting any voter rights in state law. At times I think these should be better explored. I’m not saying take the votes away from any certain race, ethnicity, or gender. I’m not anti-black or any other race. I’m not anti-Mexican or any other ethnicity. I’m not anti-female. I’m anti-idiot. Regardless of what the package is. It has been beat to death that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) is an empty suit. As Rush Limbaugh puts it “he says nothing, better than anyone has ever said it.” And the apparent blind followers of this man fascinate me. I, like many others, have called this man a socialist, communist, or Marxist. With my most recent experience, I wonder is if I said the word “Marxist” or referred to “Marx” would the youth of America ask if I were referring to Groucho? I cannot at this point see anything wrong with passing an aptitude test before you are handed a ballot. I’m not sure what the questions would be, and I’m not sure how many there should be. But I’m not impressed with this “everyone has the right to vote” at the moment. Yet another example of a “right” that is not expressed, nor implied in the Constitution. All told, if you can’t understand how a ballot works, (see Florida 2000). Or you cannot give specific definitions and/or examples of labels that you throw out to empune others, I’m not sure I want you deciding who will run the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years.
